Korean War Vet, Mendham Native Dies at 81

Donald Bockoven was a stamp collector and Yankees fan.

Donald Bockoven, Sr. knew his way around Morris County. The Long Valley resident was born and raised in Mendham and graduated Morristown High School in 1950.

The lifelong Morris County resident recently died at the age of 81.

Bockoven served in the United States Army during the Korean War in the 2nd and 25th Infantry Divisions, according to his obituary. When Bockoven returned from the war, he resumed his career as a carpenter and joined the Mendham United Methodist Church.

The veteran enjoyed collecting stamps and was a big Yankees fan. He retired in 1998 from his work at Reed Elsevier Publishing Company.

Bockoven is survived by his wife, two sons, two daughters, nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
