Former Mendham Boro DPW Employee Passes

William Conover dies at age 78.

William H. Conover died peacefully at home surrounded by family at the age of 78. Bornin Morristown, Conover was a graduate of Morristown High School and a lifelong resident of the Mendhams.

Conover was a member of the Mendham Borough Fire Department and was a past Director of the Mendham Borough First Aid Squad. He also served as a Senior Corpsman at Morristown Memorial Hospital and worked for the Mendham Borough Department of Public Works for 17 years before retiring in 2000. He also worked for PSE&G for 19 years.  

Conover was predeceased by a granddaughter Anne Perrault Conover and is survived by his wife of 59 years Gayle Finlay Conover; two daughters Debbie Burnet and her partner Chris Martin of Budd Lake and Faythe Martin of Richmond, Va.; two sons Glen Conover of Monmouth Junction and Darrell Conover of Mendham. He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren Rich and Lindsay Burnet, Candace and Alex Martin and Kayla, Ashly, Kyle, Brendon, Bryan and Ben Conover. Interment was private and the family said for those desiring, donations to the Mendham Borough First Aid Squad, the Church of the Messiah or Lexi's Healthcare Fund, in his memory, would be appreciated.

At Monday’s Mendham Borough Council meeting, Council President Stanley Witczak recalled Conover.

“If everyone could keep Bill Conover and his family in their thoughts it would be appreciated,” Witczak said. “Those of us who have been around here for awhile remember Bill as a big teddy bear of a man.”
