Update From Chester Borough as Athena Arrives

Warming center relocated, more churches serving hot meals in town and Mayor Bob Davis wants to let you know about it.

Chester Borough Mayor Bob Davis may be practically living in the warming center in Borough Hall, but he also has been in conference calls, council meetings and touring the damage in the town to prepare reports for FEMA.

But as the winter storm Athena settles in over the area there are five things Davis said he wants residents to be advised of:

1. Chester Borough has maintained a Warming Center for residents at 50 North Road since Wednesday, October 31, from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily. Effective Wednesday, we relocated the Warming Center to the Presbyterian Church on Main Street. There are cases of water there provided through Morris County OEM available for residents.

2. Both St Lawrence Church and the First Congregational Church have been serving hot meals each evening to all that come. Our heartfelt thanks to all of the churches for their service to the community.

3. Chester Borough power connections continues to improve with approximately 90 percent now on line. The red light at route 206 and Main Street is now working.

4. The telephone system and internet at Chester Borough Town Hall has not worked since last Tuesday. We are hopeful all will be operational on Friday this week.

5. Fresh potable water continues to be available at the Firehouse on Main Street.
