Time's Up: Are Your Lights Back On?

The magical stroke of midnight has come, and for many residents so has another broken promise of power.

According to the spreadsheets, and the assurances of the Governor himself, all of Mendham and Chester should be restored to service by 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 11.

However, according to the latest outage map, the utility has less than five customers out of service in Mendham Borough, and less than five out in Mendham Township. Chester still has 104 homes without power.

In a statement, JCP&L said they have restored service to 99 percent of the customers affected by Hurricane Sandy and the recent nor'easter.

"We expect to achieve full restoration tonight, with the exception of customers in the barrier islands and shoreline areas, where we continue to work with federal, state and local officials on a plan to rebuild our infrastructure and return those customers to service."

Chester Township Mayor Bill Cogger, whose constituents are heavily affected said the 99 percent number was false.

"People get irate when you say that," Cogger said. "Especially if all of those areas have been restored, why don't we see that manpower distributed here?"

Cogger said he has been giving details like pole numbers to JCP&L officials, who are clueless as to where the outages are.

"The PSE&G folks seem to get it right," Cogger said. "And yet here is a company, JCP&L, that every quarter pays dividends while its infrastructure rots. There is no reason for these polls to go down if properly maintained unless a tree falls on them."

For his part, Cogger was most upset with the public being mislead.

"No one was asking for the impossible," Cogger said. "Just tell the truth. And if you don't know, say you don't know."

So was your home graced by the magical midnight power fairy? Sound off in our comments below. Tell us when you were restored or if you are still in the dark.

We weren't restored by midnight, but the power just came on at 4 am! Better late than never I guess. We're located on Old Chester Road behind the Dunkin' Donuts.

We are still without power! We have been calling Jcp&l everyday and everyday they assure us that we will have power by 11:59 pm. They don't have a clue! Last year October 2011, Jcp&l told us we were the last home to get power (10 days) and by the looks of things, we will have that honor again.

We are still out.

Jcp&l is full of stories and promises and yet when I have called repeatedly to tell them we are without - it is a surprise to the call center every time. They projected our street, lamerson rd, back on on Saturday, but 6:30 Monday am we all remain in the dark. Day 15 and counting JCP&l. The trees that fell on our lines haven't even been cleared yet- no trucks have been here. Beyond frustrating as our mayor correctly summed it up.

Pleasent hill rd in Chester looks the same as it did the day after the storm, JCP&L has really let us down.

Trees cleared Saturday but NO poles/transformer activity Sunday on Delwood Rd (off of Pleasant Hill Rd) :( Hopefully today especially for Kessler facility sake. Critical patients should be a priority like schools. Again think Chesters needs to explore our OWN private utility and crew like Madison Boro.

I could not allow myself to collapse. I was in charge of making sure so many others were and even now are as comfortable as we at the Warming Center can make them. I must admit I almost lost it this week when a woman came to me and told me she had lost everything. She quietly asked me if she could have something to eat for lunch. For those without power still today, stop by the Red Door Presbyterian Church between 9am and 6pm. I along with Pastor Chris will be there to greet you with a smile in addition to warmth and even WIFI. It may not help to bring your lights back on in your home, but hopefully we can add a little light to your heart.

No power yet for those of us at the end of Cherry Tree Lane.

We just got our power back around 8 pm last night. Then fire engines were called to my neighbor's house within 20 minutes because they could smell burning but could not find the source. It turned out to be isolated to a surge protector. After to being without power for two weeks the surge of electrical currents overwhelmed their circuits. Maybe in your followup writing you can urge people to do more than rejoice when their power is restored - walk through every room of their house including basement, attic and garage to make sure everything is okay. Plus, if you are transitioning off a generator, disconnect those circuits then bring them back on your main one by one.

I live on Rogers Road and still no power as of this morning 11/12, someone needs to tell us what is up
Karen Sorensen November 12, 2012 at 03:05 PM
We have not gotten power, I called 3x yesterday to confirm power coming back on at midnight even told them to be honest I could take if it were a few more days what I couldnt take is being lied to another time. Guess what no power.

We live on Rogers rd. still no power!!! So frustrating as I was told by a jcpl worker I would have power on Friday, then Sunday by midnight. Still nothing at 10:15. Waiting for power to get in through garage opener. The key doesn't seem to work after the storm. Wind must have done something to the storm. When I call jcpl they keep talking about flooding being the reason for the delay. We have no flooding!!!!!
Georgia Bulko November 12, 2012 at 03:20 PM
Georgia Bulko Our house appears to be the only one on our street without power. JCP&L explained that they listed our outage ticket as a SINGLE outage not with the street outage. So we are now on the lowest priority to get power back. Since this was their fault and not the Hurricane's, will they be paying my gas bill for the generator? Complete INCOMPETENCE!!!!

We got it today or last night I don't which since we'd gone to a hotel for the weekend.
Concerned Chester Resident November 12, 2012 at 05:21 PM
Lamerson Road still without power, although JCP&L has told us repeatedly that they are working on it. There are no crews and have never been. School bus goes under a tree that is leaning on power lines on Pottersville Road.
delwood dame November 12, 2012 at 07:09 PM
Duke Energy trucks ALL over Pleasant Hill Road today and side streets.
Brad Lewin November 12, 2012 at 07:36 PM
Thank god for Duke, but where the hell is JCP&L?
Donna Lupo November 12, 2012 at 07:38 PM
I actually went looking for power trucks this morning, We are off Long View Rd (Howell Dr) still without power. JCPL does not even have a work order for us. I did find a truck and asked if he knew anything. He did say help was on the way. Someone was FINALLY cutting down leg tree hanging across Pottersville Rd, would not let my daughter ride bus today knowing that tree is on her route.
Jeanne Dultz November 12, 2012 at 07:54 PM
We live on Luce Drive; I knew that the deadline would not apply to us. I can't help but wonder if JCP&L even has our area on its maps. We are perpetually the forgotten few - last to get our power back no matter the circumstances. While I am happy for the towns that got power back last week, I don't see why we must always be last on the list.
Deb Schuetz November 14, 2012 at 07:08 PM
Maple Avenue, Chester Borough: as of 11/5 we have partial power (brownout). Some heat, no hot water, dim lights. JCP&L says our "ticket" is still open and that they might get to us today, 11/14.
