The line to the Delta gas station on Route 24 in Chester Township Thursday morning at about 9:30 a.m. stretched back more than a mile.
According to some Patch readers, the line was just as long at 6 a.m.
"I am sitting in a crazy line at the station on Route 24 between Mendham and Chester," Mark Fraser posted to Patch's Facebook page.
That "crazy line" brought out the Chester Township Police, who went to the Delta station to make sure when the pump did shut off, there were no incidents with those who had waited for hours and ended up empty-handed.
"He has a couple thousand gallons left," Lt. Tom Williver said.
Chester resident Jodi Conaty said she passed the line of cars herself.
"I counted 170 cars on that line," Conaty said.
Were any of you on the line this morning? Did you get gas elsewhere? Let us know.
