Affordable Housing Purchase Rejected in Chester Boro

Governing body decides against buying Little Italian Kitchen property to satisfy COAH regulations.

Chester Borough will not be purchasing the Little Italian Kitchen property to help satisfy their Council on Affordable Housing (COAH) need, Mayor Bob Davis said at last week's meeting of the mayor and council.

"On COAH, we made no decisions to move forward on the purchase of property," Davis said. "There was a discussion about should we purchase the little Italian kitchen property with the borough affordable housing funds. We made a decision not to move forward to buy that property at this time with affordable housing [funds]."

Planning Consultant David Banisch said that "the information I sent shows that you guys went over what you needed to expend, so I think you're in safe territory based on the funding commitments of the resolutions that were adopted last year."

Davis said that the council would rehash the topic at the group's next meeting on June 18 after updates from Banisch and attorney Brian Mason.

Previous discussions on COAH property included the Larsion's Corner property as well as the old municipal lot at 300 Main Street.
