Taste of 'New' Italian Coming to Mendham's Main Street

Piattino replacing Mackenzie's, offering pizzas, seafood and a bar.

Can you smell the aroma?

The scent of new age Italian cuisine is coming to Mendham, offering everything from Neapolitan pizzas to prosciutto-wrapped meatballs and every pasta in between.

Piattino, located in the Kings shopping plaza on Main Street, will open its doors in the coming days, and contractors were putting the finishing touches on the new bistro last week. The restaurant replaces Mackenzie's, which closed in July.

“We wanted to bring in a welcoming restaurant that offers the neighborhood and visiting guests a chance to feel transported to another area, perhaps a bistro along the Almafi coastline,” said Anthony Scotto, Chief Executive Officer of Villa Enterprises in a statement. Villa is affiliated with 40NORTH Restaurant Group, which oversees 11 properties throughout New Jersey.

Piattino will offer 60 seats, a full bar, along with booth and table seating. Its open window façade faces out to Mendham’s Main Street.

The menu will be diverse, according to Chef Kyle Bem, who will create Italian-inspired bistro cuisine, including chilled seafood salad and braised veal.

“We are looking forward to creating amazing dishes for our guests,” Bem said in a press release. “We want them to feel at home. I want them to know that I am cooking for them just like I would in my own kitchen.”

Piattino will be open seven days a week for dinner, lunch, and weekend brunch. Reservations will be accepted and take-out is available.
