Muscle Up: NitroFlex in Chester to Open Saturday

Long-awaited business filling space once occupied by movie theatre.

Fortunately for Steve Tylee, he’s become a pretty patient guy.

Competing in global bodybuilding tournaments for some 20 years will test anyone’s patience. Tylee was able to parlay the virtue into the business world as he awaited the construction of his new fitness center, NitroFlex in Chester.

It might be a few months later than he would have liked, but Tylee has announced the gym’s doors would open on Saturday, May 31 to the public.

Tylee, a three-time Mr. England and third place finisher in the Mr. Universe bodybuilding competition, didn’t just build a gym, though. The space which used to house both a movie theatre and tae kwon do dojo is now home to a wide open free-weight area, cardio section, CrossFit-style workout area with 36-bar jungle gym, spin room, two massage rooms, a mezzanine, childcare center and mens and womens locker rooms.

Between competing on a global level and being married to an executive for Wyndham Hotels who travels often, Tylee has had plenty of experience seeing what’s available around the world.

“It’s like a five-star hotel in here,” Tylee said of the top-of the line locker rooms, complete with European marble countertops, individual saunas and shower areas. “I want our members to feel comfortable here, both in the gym and when they’re relaxing.”

The torturous winter didn’t help NitroFlex’s opening date, as workers looking to complete Chester’s newest addition were pulled away to keep the rest of the shopping center intact as Mother Nature continued to pound the area.

Tylee’s patience, as it has in the past, has paid off. While the new space has been under construction, he kept his registration center in the corner of the shopping plaza open for current members to have a place to go. He said the response to NitroFlex has been terrific.

Tylee said his monthly membership fee is right in the middle, offering 56 classes per week and free reign of the gym – open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends – for $59.99 per month. Childcare will run $3 per day or $20 for a flat monthly fee.

While the gym will open to members and the general public on Saturday, Tylee said he’s planning something much more grand for sometime in June.
