Mendies Spotlight: Hall of Fame Inductee Pastime Club

Annual community event to take place on March 7.

The seventh annual "Mendies" event is scheduled for March 7, where longtime Mendham Borough and Mendham Township residents are honored for their contributions to the community.

With the honor, these residents will be inducted into the Mendies Hall of Fame. This year's class includes three individuals and, for the first time, a community group.

Sponsored by Mendham TV, the Mendies will have a Red Carpet walk for their honorees, local TV coverage, the Hall of Fame awards ceremony, appetizers, a buffet dinner, adult beverages, live band and dancing. In addition, the event includes a silent auction, an opportunity to bid on locally donated gifts and raise money for the station.

The following is a spotlight on one of this year's honorees, the Pastime Club, the first organization selected to the Hall of Fame.

The Pastime Club is the first organization inducted into the Mendhams Hall of Fame. For nearly 100 years, the Pastime Club has provided strong support of youth athletics, many community service contributions and is the long-time sponsor of the Mendham Labor Day Weekend Carnival.

An all-volunteer organization of some 200 local residents, the Pastime Club members built and continue to operate the clubhouse on Hilltop Road as well as the Pastime Lanes, the Mendham's classic four-alley bowling center adjacent to St. Joe's. The Club also built and continues to sponsor the Pastime A's baseball team.

The Club's major event, the Labor Day Weekend carnival, now in its 70th year, has become a major local tradition, involving thousands of hours of volunteer time and raising tens of thousands of dollars per year.
