The generosity of Mendham and Chester residents made a difficult holiday a little easier for victims of Hurricane Sandy. In conjunction with Hands Helping Humanity, Christmas toys collected at the Chester and Flanders RE/MAX office and at the Mendham Township Police Department were delivered to a shelter in Middletown on Dec.18. are being delivered Dec. 20 to a shelter in Middletown where they will be distributed to those who need it.
According to RE/MAX agent Tammy Abrusci, families have registered and showed that they are in need before receiving a gift.
“Many other individuals that helped greatly,” Abrusci said. “Noreen Staples from Mendham Township and Matthew Carty from Far Hills, who is a freshman in Bernards High School.”
Abrusci said the volume of gifts made an impact to the hurricane ravaged community.
“The recipients at the church were astonished of the amount of toys they received today. This is all possible due to the generosity of so many that helped and donated toys,” Abrusci said. “Each toy puts a smile on a child's face.”
