Heading West Of Chester? Not So Fast

Traffic backed up as much as a quarter mile on Rt. 24.

Traffic on Rt. 24 in Chester Township is backing up as much as a quarter mile Friday while road crews complete work.

The road is down to one lane between Furnace and Parker Roads, creating a snag for residents heading west of Chester and motorists heading east of Washington Township.

Construction crews will be on site until 4 p.m. weekdays until the work is complete. A drive through Chester showed extra volume Friday afternoon as residents scrambled ahead of a winter storm that could bring as much as 10 inches of snow to the area over the weekend.

The roadwork was announced in late November here, and is being done by the Environmental Protection Association, which will be installing a monitoring well in the area of the Church of the Messiah, Chester Township Police Lt. Tom Williver said.
