Another Round of Rain, Lightning, Wind Gusts To Blast NJ Tuesday

Two to three inches of rain could fall in short periods of time across the state, National Weather Service reports.

Another round of storms is headed for the state Tuesday, and this blast could hover over the region throughout the day and into Wednesday.

In northern New Jersey, the Morris County Office of Emergency Management says it’s monitoring what looks like severe thunderstorms and heavy winds. Rain is expected to steadily increase in the afternoon and continue through 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Heavy rainfall of up to 2 inches is expected with wind gusts up to 50 miles-per-hour to go along with moderate amounts of lightning, the county said.

The storm comes on the heels of heavy thunder and lightning that struck the area Monday night, taking out power to hundreds of residents in Morris County.

A flash flood advisory is in effect for multiple shore towns and southern New Jersey counties, including Atlantic, Atlantic Coastal/Cape May, Cape May, Coastal Ocean, Cumberland, Eastern Monmouth, Ocean and Southeastern Burlington. The National Weather Service reports up to three inches of rain could fall in a short period of time, causing heavy flooding.

The flood watch is in effect until 6 a.m. Wednesday morning.
