Voter Awareness August 10, 2913

Dear Chester Resident:

My name is Brittany Serafin and I am a Chester Girl Scout. I am currently a Gold Award candidate in preparations for my Gold Award Project, which is a workshop that focuses on promoting voter awareness and education of elected positions at the local, county, and state levels. As a young adult, I have become increasingly concerned about low voter turnout in America, especially in young people. In the 2012 Presidential Election, only 11% of people from the ages of 18 to 24 voted. It is also my impression that young adults have limited knowledge and understanding of the roles and responsibilities of our elected officials at the local, county, and state levels. Yet, at 18 years of age, they have the opportunity to have their voices heard and elect those candidates that they believe most closely represent them. Voting is not only a citizen’s duty but is also a way we exercise our freedom to elect our leaders.

Therefore, I would like to invite you to attend my workshop, which will be held on Saturday August 10thfrom 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Chester Library located at 250 W Main St in Chester, NJ.

As with any Girl Scout project, I also need funding to make this both successful and productive.  I will be accepting any monetary donations as well as Staples/Shop Rite Gift Cards.  If you are interested in donating, please mail it to me at 1 Carlisle Court in Chester, NJ 07930. This money will be used to purchase the posters, mailings, and pamphlets for my workshop as well as refreshments during the workshop.
