Exciting day of awareness and family fun shaping up for Tourette Walk

MENDHAM -- The 4th annual NJ Walks at Mendham is set to take place Saturday, November 23, and the New Jersey Center for Tourette Syndrome & Associated Disorders (NJCTS) is gearing up for the stretch run toward this fun statewide family tradition. Hundreds of smiling kids, proud parents and supportive friends are expected to converge upon Borough Park and the area's adjoining streets.

A lot goes into planning and preparing for such an event, and plenty of interesting things are taking place right now to make this installment of NJ Walks For TS at Mendham the best yet:

  • Where does the money go?: Every dollar donated or raised will go toward educating teachers and nurses at schools in every corner of New Jersey, as well as conducting peer trainings and anti-bullying sessions on behalf of the 1 in 100 NJ kids with Tourette Syndrome!
  • Honorary Committee: NJCTS is hard at work putting together an Honorary Committee to lend its support to the walk, and we are proud to announce that WFAN Sports Talk Radio host Craig Carton is in the fold as part of this committee. Carton is a huge advocate on behalf of kids with TS and also serves as an Honorary Member of NJCTS' Board of Directors. Other Honorary Committee members include Congressmen Albio Sires (D-NJ8) and Rush Holt (D-NJ12), State Senators Loretta Weinberg (D-37) and Anthony R. Bucco (R-25), State Assemblywoman Holly Schepisi (R-39), and State Assemblymen Troy Singleton (D-7) and Jack Ciattarelli (R-16).
  • Event sponsorship: The Presenting Sponsor for the 4th annual NJ Walks For TS at Mendham once again is Asurion, which has donated $3,000. Other sponsors include Whole Foods Market Madison, DCH Montclair Acura and Twin City Pharmacy & Surgical of South Plainfield.
  • Wish list: NJCTS is in need of a photographer, balloon artists, face painters, people to seek out corporate sponsors and other volunteers for the day of the event. If you have any of these valuable skills and/or would like to contribute, please call NJCTS at 908-575-7350.
  • More fun than ever before!: This year, NJCTS will be adding a few new wrinkles to the walk! There will be a 50/50 raffle, with the chance to earn some serious dough! There also will be copious prizes for the top fundraisers, as well as a chance to bid on a limited edition American Girl Doll and perhaps much more!
