Restaurant Owner Eyes Larison's Property

Telephone conversations with CVS and a planned visit to a Warren business mark progress in Turkey Farm saga.

The subcommittee of the Chester Borough council charged with deciding the fate of the Larison’s Turkey Farm site continues to explore its options, but according to an update from Mayor Bob Davis made at Tuesday's council meeting, strides are being made.   “The committee has not met. There have been a lot of questions back and forth, telephone conversations with CVS and different groups,” Davis said. Among those the committee has been speaking with is Mitchell Berlant, a business associate of restaurant owner Frank Cretella, who handles real estate matters for Cretella. Davis said there is an interest in putting a restaurant/catering facility on the western part of the site. Davis said the committee was planning to visit the Stone House at …

Ya, I agree - forget the CVS/Rite Aid idea for that location! They belong in a strip mall near Shop Rite. Why not have a restaurant on one side and movie theater on the other? This way parents can drop the kids off for a movie, and go for a bite to eat instead of going back home:)   more ›

Nationwide, gas prices were predicted to be lower this summer compared to the last three years, but that won't translate into savings at the pump this Memorial Day weekend, experts said. "Motorists this year are facing rising gas prices heading into the Memorial Day holiday," said Michael Green, a AAA spokesman, adding that Memorial Day 2013 would probably be the most expensive since 2011. In past years, prices have declined heading into early summer as oil refineries produced more gasoline to meet expected summer driving demand. This year, though, Midwest refineries …

Well, since the Exxon in Mendham is the only game in town, they are the cheapest in Mendham, well, if you like paying top dollar. Most stations in Chester probably have them beat by 20-25 cents, but then again, you miss out on being able to say "I buy MY gas in Mendham".   more ›

Mendham Men's Mojo Addressed in Andropause Seminar

Second in a series of free health seminars offered at the Garabrant Center by Robinson's Drug and Compounding Center to focus on men's health.

The focus of the first seminar on health and wellness at the Garabrant Center in Mendham was women's health. The second round will focus on the men. Led by Dr. John Kim, and sponsored by Robinson Drug, the June 6 talk will be on Andropause.  Andropause is sometimes referred to as male menopause as the effects that appear in some aging men have some superficial similarities to menopause effects in women. "The next seminar is about losing men's mojo," Kim said. "And it will again be at the Garabrant Center with a start time of 7 p.m." Kim is a compounding pharmacist who has brought with him to Mendham a wave of new initiatives that are going to bring the cutting edge to the more than century-old drug store. A native of Bayone, Kim received …

The Last Picture Show Plays Out in Chester

Clearview Cinemas closes its doors after more than three decades.

On Sunday afternoon, movie goers in Chester saw their last images on the big screen at their local theater, Clearview Cinemas.  The theater, in operation for 30 years, closed at the end of business.  Some of the patrons had no idea of the closing while others came for the final time. "We understand why it is closing, but it has been great for the community and we are sad to see it go," said Chester resident Debbie Foster.  "We've had a good time here growing up going to the movies; we are going to miss it." In the Subway shop, Dakesh Patel hoped it wouldn't impact the shopping center or his business.  "The closing will effect us until something else opens up, we will have to see what the foot traffic for the gym is going to be," said Patel…

The landlord isn't exactly helping matters with the ridiculous rents they are charging. The last gym was forced out because Marshall's wanted more space. You'd be an idiot to rent space in the mall.   more ›
