Patriots Shut Out Bluefish

The Somerset Patriots defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish, 2-0, in front of 6,775 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday night.

The Patriots scored in the third after Dan Hennigan reached on a bunt single and came around to score on an RBI double by Jonny Tucker.

Somerset added to its lead in the bottom of the eighth inning on an RBI single by Jeff Nettles that brought home Hennigan and made the score 2-0.

Patriots starter Mike MacDonald (3-4) picked up the win after tossing seven scoreless innings and striking out three. Bridgeport starter Gilbert De La Vara (3-5) got the loss, allowing two runs on eight hits in 7.1 innings pitched. Josh Rupe earned his 12th save of the season after pitching a scoreless ninth.

The 2012 Somerset Patriots season will continue on the road until Friday, July 13 when the Patriots return to TD Bank Ballpark to take on the Camden Riversharks at 7:05 p.m. The game features a post-game fireworks show.
