Patriots Pitching, Defense Blanks Barnstormers

The Somerset Patriots defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 6-0 at TD Bank Ballpark on Thursday night.

The Patriots rallied in the bottom of the second inning to take the lead after Johnny Drennen drove a bases clearing triple down the right field line. Joe Holden then followed with an RBI base hit to left field to plate Drennen for the 4-0 advantage.

Somerset tacked on two more runs in the fourth after Yusuf Carter (4) drove a two run home run over the outfield wall to make the score 6-0.

Patriots starter Paul Phillips (5-2) picked up the win after pitching seven scoreless innings while striking out five. John Halama (4-3) suffered the loss for Lancaster after giving up six runs on seven hits in five innings of work.

The 2012 Somerset Patriots season will continue on the road until Thursday, June 14 when the Patriots return home to take on the York Revolution at 7:05 p.m. at TD Bank Ballpark. The game includes a special Flag Day Celebration and Patriots Cinch Sacks (first 1,500).
