Turkey Farm's Fate Uncertain, What Should Boro Do?
Years of planning and weeks of talking has the council no closer to a decision. We want to hear your thoughts on what should be next.
After 11 years of languishing, there appeared to be forward progress on the Larison Turkey Farm property when Chester Borough released a statement to the public about a new development plan in the works.
At the following meeting, Turkey Farm Acquisition, LLC presented its case for rezoning at borough council meeting and during the public-comment portion of the meeting, two members of the historical society and another resident spoke up about their opinions regarding potential rezoning of the property. The consensus among the speakers was the historical value of the site should be considered when weighing the properties future.
The council itself has spent over four hours in discussion over the project, and after meeting at the beginning of the month decided a site visit and capacity study for the site were needed.
On Tuesday, the council toured the site and saw first hand what was planned to go where. A new restaurant, a CVS pharmacy and a bank of new stores consistent with the style of downtown were proposed.
Photos of these locations with their descriptions can be found in the virtual tour.
At the end of the night, after more discussion, the council hadn't come to a conclusion.
"We are going to continue to have public input and continue with the visioning process through our planner," Mayor Bob Davis said.
So we want to know what you think should be done with the property. Answer our poll and share your own ideas below.

This should be kept only for the primary purpose it has served over the years.
The last thing the town needs is more clautrophobia especially at that intersection. Think of the construction that alone that will be done on that bad enough and blind 206 intersection/corner. Like its not jammed enough since the whole messed up last intersection change. The city is looking for revenue alright but in all the wrong ways...As if there are not already enough banks and pharmacies in the local area.
Let alone the historical heritage of Larisons. I have lived here 30 years and it would be sad to see this site rezoned.

The buyers knew what they were buying when they bought it, now they want to change the zoning for their own profit. We dont need yet another bank, or CVS. How about an Open Space historical living farm? Oh that's right, that wouldn't make any money for the builders.

I have been visiting the chester center of town for over 30 yrs, what make it a "Family" destination is it's old town appeal that make you feel good "not corporate, chain store".
The monitory funds that a corp. francise store will bring to the town will not outweigh the long lasting effect of a "destination" spot for many family's who visit this cute little town.
As an child I can remember walking & "spending $$" the whole day in town, now man adults with family love to take their children to a place that hasn't been contaminated with new signage, corp. logo's, & most important money that is being spent going to a corporations outside of our state & neighborhood.
YOU DO NOT NEED ANOTHER CVS,BANK,ETC.
With the huge concern over our food safety these days, why not give the tax breaks "like most towns give large francises" to a local farmer or farmers & let him showcase how beautiful a local sustainable,non-hormone/chemical,local family farm can be.
Residents fron near & fare away will come to visit & purchase not only farm goods but other stores/vendors as well, local restaurant owners can advertise they "Buy-Local",it will lower their food cost & start a Buzz with customer resulting in keeping the Great family owner business chester currently has ALIVE......FOR NOW !!!!!!!!
THINK WHAT HAS MADE CHESTER WHAT IT IS....................

I agree, we don't need more retail space when there are still vacancies all around town. Preserving it as open space/historical is a good idea if feasible. Otherwise there ought to be someone out there who can make a go of it.

I would like to know why the same discussion regarding a CVS and new shopping mall are on the table again? This was brought before the council quite a number of years ago. The council voted NO because it did not meet zoning requirements. Mayor Davis was on the council then, so why is he back discussing this issue. Is it because there are a number of new council members that were not there at the time? What is wrong with the current location of CVS? I think the only one complaining is CVS. I have never heard anyone who lives here complain about that location. It's crazy to even think about another strip mall. Look at the tree we already have--lots of vacancies. I agree with Tracy. They new what they were purchasing and they knew what the zoning was.

Excuse my typos. The owners knew what they purchased! I think a living farm is a great idea, something like Fosterfields. What about a YMCA designed to fit the historic architect of the town? It would be nice to have something that everyone could enjoy.

Hmmm, anyone ever think of opening a restaurant that serves family style turkey dinners? Maybe some live animals in the back and a little gift shop?? Yeah, I guess I'm nuts, something like that would never work.

Quite frankly, a quality hotel, along with a restaurant and few shops would be perfect there. No other hotels in the area with plenty of corporate customers out there, PLUS, the weekend visitors to Six Flags there on 24 would possibly keep it full on Fall weekends. Oh, by the way, have any Borough officials noticed that Borough businesses have been adversely affected by the traffic on 24 caused by the Amusement Park in the Township?? I really wonder where Borough and Township officials hide on weekends. Certainly no where near Route 24.

Besides a quality hotel we could use a trader joes or whole foods. Not appreciating shoprite being my only choice. As far as the Amusement Park it has very negatively affected our lives on the weekend. We don't want to leave home because of the crazy traffic.
