Wegmans Plans to Move to Morris County
Pending Hanover Township approval, grocery store could soon move into region.
Wegmans is coming to the area.
Hanover Township will be the home of a brand-new branch of the upscale supermarket, according to the Mack-Cali Realty Corporation.
Wegmans Food Markets Inc. will rent an undeveloped site at Sylvan Way and Ridgedale Avenue. Should the project obtain all necessary government approvals, the company will build a 140,000 square foot store.
No projected dates for construction or the store opening were provided.
Mack-Cali said in a statement that it intends to lease the remainder of the site—about 40,000 additional square feet—to other retailers.
“A supermarket of this caliber will be a welcome addition to Hanover Township and the surrounding towns in Morris County," Mack-Cali President and CEO Mitchell E. Hersh said in the company statement. "This was a great opportunity to put our strategically located land bank to use in a diverse manner.”
Wegmans currently has seven New Jersey locations in Bridgewater, Cherry Hill, Manalapan, Mt. Laurel, Ocean, Princeton and Woodbridge.

Sylvan and Ridgedale is Route 10 West. I would prefer to see Wegmans redevelop the Hanover Pathmark site or the former Acme at the Rockaway Town Square Mall. There's already enough development between Route 287 in Hanover and Route 202 in Parsippany. However it's Morris County and developers buy all the politicans here.

The Hanover Pathmark site would have been a good spot. I thought I heard Foodtown is re-opening there - which at one time did house Foodtown, before Pathmark.

Rumor has it Trader Joe's is looking at the Whippany Pathmark. It may be entirely unrelated, but the Stop and Shop at 10 and 202 seems to be expanding their natural/organic sections - perhaps it's preemptive?
Wegmans AND TJ's? I would be beside myself!

Sounds good to me. I just visited a Wegman's in Pennsylvania, and was very favorably impressed by the selection and the store layout.

So happy Wegman's might come to Hanover. I really like the store. As for all that mess that preceeds this between Dave 2 and Templin. Why can't we just all try to get along. Who needs to fight over who is right about local farming and organic fruits and vegetables? The Patch is supposed to be a place to share information not get all up in the face of readers. Relax. Have a smoothie. :)

Templin- You are completely incapable of posting a comment that isn’t full of lies. I am not an owner, employee or family member of any business associated with the Market Garden Ordinance or any other business in Chatham (Township or Boro). Your comments posted on this page were done with clear intent by you to try and drum up support by making false accusations and lies. This is not the only article that you posted comments on that had nothing to do with the subject at hand.

I am in favor of the commerical farming ordinance. Let people make a living. If you don't like it, move.

I hope it's true. I love Wegmans! A good spot for the store would of been on Rt 10 West, where Linen and things, Borders were in East Hanover. They sure have enough parking there.

"Upscale" is misleading, it implies high prices. Wegmans is whole foods quality (better actually) at shoprite prices. I'm from WNY and am of course a big fan.
