Vehicle Impounded After Hitting Pedestrian, Cops Say

Woman airlifted to hospital after Monday accident on Main Street.

The vehicle that struck a pedestrian Monday afternoon on Main Street has been impounded for a safety check, Chester Borough Police said Tuesday.

A woman, whose identity has not yet been released, was airlifted from Grove Street Park to Morristown Medical Center with serious injuries, according to Chester First Aid Squad Capt. David Fretwell.

The crash occurred in front of The Church of St. Lawrence The Martyr Monday at about 3:30 p.m. Main Street was closed for about 90 minutes while authorities investigated the accident, Chester Borough Police Det. Keith Anderson said.

It was not immediately released whether the driver of the vehicle was issued a summons.

In addition to the Chester Borough Police, the Chester Township Police, the Morris County Sheriff's Office, the Chester Ambulance Squad and the Chester Fire Department responded to the scene.
