18-year-old Brian Smith fatally struck by a box truck Saturday morning on Route 10.
An 18-year-old Randolph resident has been identified as the pedestrian fatally struck by a furniture store box truck Saturday morning on Route 10 in Randolph that shut down the roadway for about a mile in both directions for several hours, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said.
The victim has been identified as Brian Smith, according to Capt. Jeffrey Paul, a spokesman for Prosecutor Robert A. Bianchi.
Smith appeared to have been struck by a Raymour and & Flanigan box truck in a traffic lane at about 8:45 a.m., the prosecutor's office said. The truck remained on the scene, stopped on the shoulder of the eastbound lanes.
The accident remains under investigation. No summons or other charges had been issued as of Saturday afternoon, Paul said.
The Randolph Township Police Department, Morris County Prosecutor's Office Vehicular Homicide Unit, Morris County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Section and the Morris County Medical Examiner's Office all responded to the scene.
Route 10 was closed in Randolph between Canfield Avenue and Dover Chester Road for about three hours before re-opening shortly before noon, Paul said.
