Chester Township Police Chief Wayne Martini was on hand during a rainy Wednesday morning to see off Lieutenant Tom Schmieder and Sergeant Ed Noonan as they pedaled out of the Ramada on Route 10 in East Hanover to join the national Police Unity bike tour, a weeklong cycling event that honors police officers killed throughout the country.

The primary purpose of the Police Unity Tour is to raise awareness of Law Enforcement Officers who have died in the line of duty. The secondary purpose is to raise funds for the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial and Museum.

The tour will last until next Tuesday, when thousands of officers from across the country will roll to a stop at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington D.C.

Both Schmieder and Noonan are long time participants in the event, with Noonan being one of the original riders. The Chester officers use their own personal and vacation time to participate in the ride each year.

More information on the tour can be found on their website.

Former Chief Shuler was participating in a portion of the event not beginning until the next day and wasn't available for photos. Former officer McClemens is included in the picture in the gallery attached to the story. This particular post focused on the officers currently serving and giving of their own time.
Not to minimize the other contributions of course, but I was highlighting the current Lieutenant and Sergeant.

We're awfully defensive aren't we. I wasn't criticizing, merely making mention that these two great guys were involved!

Hahahaha. I get defensive over my eating habits and science fiction...this is just a clarification I forgot to make earlier until I received some e-mails Sunday afternoon.
