Mendham Man Charged After Striking Pedestrian
Driver drove around a school bus and struck woman, Mendham Borough Police said.
A 62-year-old Mendham woman was pedestrian was struck on West Main Street in Mendham Borough Wednesday morning, Mendham Borough Police said.
According to police, the accident occured just before 9:15 a.m. at 1 West Main Street, in front of the Black Horse Pub and the Phoenix House.
Police said the accident occured when a 54-year-old Mendham man drove his Audi around a school bus and ran into the woman in the road.
"He didn't see her," said Mendham Borough Police Chief Pat Libertino.
The woman, whose identity was not released due to her patient status, was transported to the Morristown Medical Center by the Mendham First Aid Squad.
"She had some facial abrasions and was bleeding from the mouth," Libertino said. "But we haven't heard word of anything else from the hospital."
Libertino said the driver, who was uninjured, was charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian and careless driving.
The road was cleared for all traffic by 9:30 a.m. and the investigation is ongoing.

Lets see... I am a local jack ass in a big hurry to (what?) I come flying around the school bus which obstructs my view of the road in an area LOADED with children. I am driving too fast and send a woman in the cross walk to the hospital because I am so important that I have no regard for anyone else. You know what ? if you are that F^%^ng important, go live someplace else.

That was kind of my thoughts and was trying to say it without saying it. This is just so wrong...I feel so bad for her. There have been 3 or 4 of these accidents in Chester.
Are they really accidents when they could have been prevented right from the start ?

Pedestrians tend to think that being on a crosswalk makes them invincible. There are too many crosswalks then is necessary in some towns. Reducing the number of them might reduce the number of pedestrian accidents. It would concentrate the pedestrian traffic better and bring better focus to motorists to see the pedestrians better. The overabundance of the crosswalks in certain towns is actually distracting to drivers and ultimately defeats the purpose in some cases. Drive down Abbott Avenue in Morristown and you will see a good example of what I am referring to.

The ghetto in Motown is not the intersection in the middle of mendham. Everyones children cross back and forth to the school on hilltop. This guy should be strung up. If your five year old was run over by some idiot, you'd be singing a different tune. Fortunately that did not happen.

Drivers need to learn that driving slow in certain areas is neccesary. Pedestrians are entitled to the same level of respect as a person driving a vehicle capable of killing them. Morristown or Mendham are places where speeding is just not safe for anyone.
