It was an interesting week in our area as Chester Borough turned down Chester Township's proposal to contract police services while the panel sudying the regional school system came to a halt over feasibility study options.

Chester Borough Rejects Contracting Police

The Chester Borough Police Department will be staying as is it seems, as the Chester Borough Council decided to reject the second proposal for contracting police services from Chester Township.

School Study in Limbo As Towns Can't Agree

The latest meeting of the mayor's group studying the regional school district ended at an impasse. With the towns unable to agree on what to study, it is unclear on whether or not a feasibility is in fact, feasible.

Cops: Man Had Drugs and Rifle in Car

Two Sussex County men were found with a rifle and in possession of marijuana following a motor vehicle stop on Woodland Road last week, according to the Mendham Township Police.

Maria's Cafe is Now Up and Running in Chester

Maria Solano, the owner and operator of Maria’s Café in Long Valley, has now brought the cafe and specialty stop to downtown Chester. The cafe will be serving breakfast items, pastries and coffee in the morning and soups, salads and sandwiches around lunchtime.

Cops: Two Caught Breaking Into Vacant Home

A tip from a retired police officer about suspicious activity led to two individuals being arrested Friday when they were caught breaking into a vacant North Road home, according to the Chester Township Police.
