Mendham TV Wants Hall of Fame Nominations

Mendham TV is looking for nominations between now and October 15 for their annual hall of fame honors. Winners will be announced by year end and honored at the station's fifth annual Mendies celebration in March.

The Mendham Hall of Fame is designed to honor individuals or families for noteworthy deeds/extraordinary service to the Mendham area. Nominees must live or have lived or worked in the Mendhams and be retired from their area of recognized excellence for one year or more. 

"The Hall of Fame has become a major award ceremony for our community," said selection committee member Evan "Buzzy" Thomas.  "It honors the best of the best, those who have made the Mendhams such a special place. While we already have a long list of nominess, we can always use more." 

For his part, Pat Maynard, one of last year's recipients couldn't have been happier with the honor. 

"It was better than my birthday," Maynard said.

The initial 2009 class included legendary high school girls' basketball coach and Borough resident Fred Corona, long-time local farmer Fred Backer, the late Ray Woodhull, a 60-year volunteer fireman, and the late Ernie Maw, Mendham TV star and township historian.  

The class of 2010 featured Bob Gerber, who immigrated to the US from Swiss and is known locally as the "Christmas Tree light" guy; Bob Mulcahy, former Borough Mayor and Athletic Director at Rutgers; Barbara Nutt, long-time Mendham-Chester High School teacher and resident of the Borough who advised the H.S. Service Club for decades; and the late Rich Morales, Borough Police Officer and DARE leader. 

The 2011 class included long-time Brookside resident of Brookside and New Jersey State Supreme Court judge Stu Pollock; veteran Mendham Borough Police Chief in Mendham Borough James J. Cillo; the Pitney family, which has lived in the Mendhams for 11 generations; and the Henry family, long-time local residents who raised seven children in the Township, including the current Borough Mayor, and helped start several youth sports programs.

The 2012 class included Mike Ackerman, long-serving Borough council member and Mayor; Pat Maynard, former township committee woman, county freeholder and NJ's Port Authority liaison; Brian Phelan, long-time member of the Brookside Volunteer Fire Department and Township Committee; and Gary Quam, former teacher and veteran band director at Mendham-Chester High School.

Mendham TV is the television station of the Mendhams, providing programs and updates 24/7 to residents of Mendham Borough, Mendham Township and neighboring communities.  Funded by sponsors, contributions and the annual Mendies, the station does not use tax monies.  Mendham TV can be seen on channel 29 on Comcast and channel 22 on Verizon in the Mendhams and Chesters.  

Nominations should include the name of the candidate and a brief rationale.  Nominations should be sent to stationmanager@mendhamtv.org or provided to a member of the Mendham TV board by October 15.
