Mendham Native Wins 2012 NJCTS Scholarship

The New Jersey Center for Tourette Syndrome & Associated Disorders (NJCTS)gives the award to Mendham's Cody C. Stoia.

 

The New Jersey Center for Tourette Syndrome & Associated Disorders (NJCTS) has given Cody C. Stoia  the 2012 NJCTS Children's Scholarship.

Stoia, who is from Mendham, graduated in February 2012 from the Academy at Swift River in Massachusetts, and was selected for his academic achievement, community service and accomplishments as an individual with Tourette Syndrome – a neurological disorder that affects 1 in 100 children.

Stoia is an avid member of the Interact Club, which is active in the community of Cummington, Mass., where his school is located. He also has played guitar since he was six, frequently skied since he was five and began playing soccer with the Randolph Soccer Club when he was four. Stoia has been a counselor at the Stony Brook Day Camp in Randolph and also worked at Dolce Hotel & Resorts in Basking Ridge.

Stoia, who is undecided about where he will attend college in the fall, has been accepted to seven universities and now is taking courses at the County College of Morris.

Since 2001, the NJCTS Children's Scholarship Award has been awarded to more than 200 outstanding high school seniors in the state of New Jersey who have excelled in their schools, communities and lives – representing themselves as excellent advocates for Tourette Syndrome.
