Mayors' Meeting for Disaster Prep Postponed
No makeup date scheduled for regional discussions.
The second post-Hurricane Sandy meeting between the region’s mayors to discuss efficient ways of working together during disasters has been postponed, with no future date yet established.
Mayors from Washington Township, the Chesters and Mendhams first met to speak about their respective offices of emergency management in late January and discuss with each other what worked – and what didn’t – during and after Hurricane Sandy ravaged the region.
The true reason for the mayors to meet began nearly a year ago when the five towns began discussing a potential feasibility study to analyze the West Morris Regional High School District’s structure and funding. That issue dissolved without all sides coming to terms, but has now been resurrected in individual towns.
February’s meeting, originally scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 28 in Mendham Township, was to have the respective town’s emergency management officials on hand to discuss a regional plan in advance of any other impending natural disaster.
