LAST CHANCE: Jersey Cares Day Volunteering

Volunteers are needed in the Trenton area to donate five hours at one of the service projects of their choice in the city. The deadline for team and individual advance registration is today.

New Jersey is your home; now show that you care by volunteering in the 14th Annual Jersey Cares Day!  On Saturday, May 5, 2012, Jersey Cares Day will mobilize more than 2,500 volunteers from throughout New Jersey to spend the day revitalizing and beautifying communities in our state.

Volunteers are needed in the Trenton area to donate just five hours at one of the service projects of their choice in the city.  Projects include painting murals, landscaping school grounds and painting school classrooms. Individual and teams of volunteers are needed.  This is a great team building opportunity for school clubs, fraternities and sororities.  Community service credit may be provided for high school and college students.

There is no fee to participate, although volunteers are encouraged to raise pledges from friends and family, similar to a walk-a-thon.  The money benefits Jersey Cares’ mission of promoting and encouraging volunteerism through a wide variety of volunteer projects designed to make a positive difference in the community.

Register:  To register or sponsor a volunteer, visit www.JerseyCaresDay.org.  The deadline for team and individual advance registration is April 27th

Anyone over the age of 12 (or 18, depending on project) is eligible to volunteer. Volunteers age 12 to 17 must be accompanied by an adult and have a waiver signer by a parent or guardian.

Volunteer:      Saturday, May 5, 2012

Day                 8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Project:            Boys and Girls Club of Newark (BGCN) Life Camp

The BGCN Life Camp has a 100-acre campus that serves 300 campers. The camp’s facilities include a pool, a 5-mile bike course, an outdoor education course, a computer lab and a library. It is designed to offer children the chance for a spirit-enriching summer experience outside the confines of the city. Volunteers are needed to perform general landscaping throughout the camp.
