Cops: Mendham Woman Caught Huffing in LV Home

The following information was provided by the Washington Township Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Mendham woman was arrested in Long Valley after police found her huffing aerosol from a can in the kitchen of a private residence, Washington Township Police said.

Officer Adam Feichter responded to a home on Mountain View Avenue for a report of an overdose, Lt. Doug Compton said. When Feichter arrived, he saw Jessica McCloud, 35, sitting in the kitchen actively inhaling the aerosol product, which Feichter described as “Dust Destroyer,” Compton said.

A third party not at the home alerted the police, Compton said.

The Mendham resident attempted to hide the product once she saw Feichter, Compton said. When Feichter tried to get more information from McCloud, she was unable to communicate as a consequence of the huffing, Compton said.

Long Valley First Aid Squad members responded to the scene to assess McCloud, who then refused medical attention, Compton said. Feichter learned McCloud was in the home working as a home health assistant, Compton said.

McCloud was arrested and charged with being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance and inhaling/possession of toxic chemical to cause intoxication.

Can something you buy at Staples be a "controlled dangerous substance"

Not sure about the CDS aspect but I saw an episode of "Intervention" where a young woman was a huffer on this same thing. It was horrible to watch. What I'm curious about is how do people decide to start "trying" such a thing. Hopes and prayers that this woman will be alright.

The same way they way they start trying cigarettes, booze, or any other drug. The big difference is that aerosol cans are a lot easier to obtain then just about any other controlled substance.

I get that but what I really meant was how does one have the initial idea to try it from the standpoint of what it's use is really for. We know that butts were originally rolled for smoking, booze for drinking, morphine to kill pain, etc. This is an aerosol to clean a keyboard. This isn't the best analogy but it's like sword swallowing or walking on broken glass. Let's just try it and just see what happens?
