Cops: Driver Had Pot, Suspended License

A 29-year-old North Bergen man and his 27-year-old passenger were arrested after a motor vehicle stop on May 7, Mendham Township Police said.
Patrolman Matthew Ambrosi stopped a 1990 Honda on Hunter’s Glen after observing Victor Fontanez III driving the import without a seatbelt, police said.
According to police, Ambrosi smelled the odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle during the stop.
Ambrosi performed a voluntary search, which turned up a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle, police said. Both Fontanez and his passenger, Yoandy Perez, were arrested and transported police headquarters for processing, police said.
Both were charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia pending a May 2012 court date at the Mendham Municipal Court. Additionally, Fontanez was charged with failure to wear a seatbelt and driving while suspended.
