A crack in the surfacing doesn’t equate to a chink in the armor as the Chester Area Pool will be ready for the May 26 Memorial Day weekend opening.
According to the Chester Area Pool Committee, the pool, which is currently undergoing repairs for cracks, is in the final stages of its resurfacing, which is one of many improvements that members will be able to see.
In addition to the functional repairs for cracks and the cosmetic facelift that the pool is receiving, new efforts are being made to heat the main pool, and there will be improvements throughout the recreation area, including: a repainted shuffle board court, revamped volleyball and basketball areas and new sports equipment.
Residents will also have a new choice in the snack department as Bella Pizza-Gourmet Deli is the new concessionaire for 2012.
“People have been really excited about that,” Chester Borough Mayor Bob Davis said at a recent meeting of the mayor and council. “They just light up when I tell them that Bella Pizza is going to be doing concessions at the pool.”
As for the resurfacing itself, Davis spoke to how well the project had come together and that when residents saw it they would see it looked like a “new pool.”
The Pool Grand Opening will take place on Saturday, May 26 and the pool will remain open on weekends only until June 20 and will then open seven days a week until Labor Day.
The Kick off to Summer Bash Festivities at the official grand opening of summer is on June 23. The celebration will include free food and live entertainment.   For questions or comments you can visit our website to register.

"new efforts are being made to heat the main pool,"

To heat that volume of water is a colossal waste of money. Make a few phone calls and find out how FEW community pools, whether public or private are heated. The operating costs are astronomical and the heat just dissipates into the atmosphere. If they don't like cool water, take a shower.
