It was a busy month for the Chester Township Police with numerous calls for service and a Hurricane and its aftermath tossed in the mix. See the map for where the action took place and read some of the details below.
Fake Money Leads to Burglary Charges
A Pennsylvania pair has been charged in connection with a Reger Road residential burglary last month, Chester Township Police said.
Edwin Morales, 28, was charged with burglary, theft, criminal mischief and conspiracy to commit burglary and theft. Mary A. Jennings, 33, was charged with conspiracy to commit burglary and theft.
Morales and Jennings were charged on Oct. 26 in connection with the Oct. 15 alleged burglary of a Reger Road home, according to a statement released by Lt. Thomas Williver.
The pair was arrested the day before on Oct. 25 for allegedly trying to pay for gas with counterfeit money at an Allamuchy gas station, according to NJ.com.
Jennings was released after being charged in Chester Township. Morales has been remanded to the Warren County Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 bail. Drug and Underage Alcohol Consumption Arrests
A trio of teenagers were arrested on Oct. 28 on drug and alcohol charges, Chester Township Police said. According to Chester Township Police Lieutenant Tom Williver, Corporal Christopher Cavanagh observed an occupied vehicle parked the wrong way on a township street. Cavanagh’s investigation led to the arrest of three 17-year-old juvenile males, two from Chester and the other from Mendham, for being under the influence of marijuana and underage consumption of alcohol, police said. One of the Chester teens was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and the juveniles were then released to their parents pending an appearance in Juvenile Court, police said.
Pair of Teenage Alcohol Consumption Arrests
An 18-year-old man from Landing and his passenger were arrested on Oct. 28 following a motor vehicle stop on Route 206, Chester Township Police said. According to Lieutenant Tom Williver, Corporal Christopher Cavanagh conducted field sobriety tests on the teenager after detecting the odor of alcohol on the driver’s breath and the driver was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. According to police, he was issued summonses for driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, maintenance of lamps and underage consumption of alcohol. The passenger, an 18-year-old Succasunna man, was also issued a summonses for underage consumption of alcohol, police said. Both were released pending an appearance in Chester Township Municipal Court, police said.
Minor Drug Arrest
A 17-year-old Chester teenager was arrested and charged with possession on Nov. 1, Chester Township Police said. According to Lieutenant Tom Williver, Corporal Christopher Cavanagh arrested the 17-year-old male and charged him with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a vehicle. The juvenile was then released to a guardian pending an appearance in Juvenile Court, police said.
Motor Vehicle Accident Injures Man
On Nov. 9 a 25-year-old Flanders man was sent to the hospital after a motor vehicle accident on Route 24 in Chester, Chester Township Police said. According to Lieutenant Tom Williver, Patrolman Matthew Bohn responded to a motor vehicle accident on Route 24 by the Delta Gas Station. According to police, the 2012 Nissan driven by the Flanders resident was waiting westbound to make a left turn when he was struck behind by a 2007 Dodge operated by a 19-year-old of Mendham. The Flanders man was transported to Morristown Memorial to be treated for his injuries while the Mendham resident was issued a summons for careless driving and has a pending appearance in Chester Township Municipal Court, police said.
Motor Vehicle Accident Sends Two to the Hospital
A 50-year-old Long Valley man and his wife were sent to Hackettstown Hospital after a motor vehicle accident Nov. 9, Chester Township Police said. According to Lieutenant Tom Williver, Patrolman Ryan Steckel responded to a motor vehicle accident on Route 206 by Old Chester Road where a 2004 Ford driven by the Long Valley man was struck from behind by a 2003 Honda driven by a 19-year-old North Brunswick woman. The woman was issued a summons for careless driving with a pendinf appearance in Chester Township Municipal Court, police said.
Motorcycle Collides with UPS Truck
A 56-year-old Port Murray man was rushed to Hackettstown Hospital after being ejected from his motorcycle on Nov. 9, Chester Township Police said. According to Lieutenant Tom Williver, Patrolman Ryan Steckel responded to a motor vehicle accident on Route 24 near Robinson Lane. According to police, the motorcycle struck a 1991 International UPS truck operated by a 36-year-old man from Albrightsville, PA .The UPS driver was issued a summons for careless driving and has a pending appearance in Chester Township Municipal Court, police said.
Woman Arrested for DWI
A 26-year-old Blairstown woman was arrested and charged with DWI after a motor vehicle stop on Nov. 10, Chester Township Police said. According to Lieutenant Tom Williver, Corporal Christopher Cavanagh allegedly detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage while speaking to the driver after a speeding stop. The driver failed field sobriety tests and was subsequently summonses for speeding, failure to maintain lane and reckless driving, police said. The accused was released pending an appearance in Chester Township Municipal Court, police said.
DWI Arrest on Route 206
A 30-year-old Phillipsburg man was arrested and charged with DWI following a motor vehicle stop on Nov. 10, Chester Township Police said. According to Lieutenant Tom Williver, reports on the driver were called into police and Corporal Christopher Cavanagh detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on the driver’s breath. The driver failed field sobriety tests and was subsequently placed under arrest and issued summonses for following too closely, failure to maintain lane and reckless driving, police said. According to police, he was released pending an appearance in Chester Township Municipal Court.
DWI Arrest on North Road
A 23-year-old Sparta woman was arrested on Nov. 18 and charged with DWI, Chester Township Police said.According to Lieutenant Tom Williver, Patrolman Michael Henry allegedly detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on the driver’s breath after a motor vehicle stop on North Road. According to police, the driver failed field sobriety tests and was subsequently placed under arrest and issued summonses for reckless driving and failure to maintain lane. Police said the driver was then released pending an appearance in Chester Township Municipal Court.
Pleasant Hill Road Accident
A 63-year-old Port Jervis woman was sent to the hospital after a motor vehicle on accident on Pleasant Hill Road, Chester Township Police said.According to Lieutenant Tom Williver, Patrolman Matthew Bohn responded to Pleasant Hill Road by Kessler Rehabilitation Hospital for a motor vehicle accident with injuries. Police said the Port Jervis man’s 2005 Hyundai was struck in the rear by a 2005 Mazda operated by a 55-year-old Chester woman. The Port Jervis resident was transported to Morristown Hospital by Chester First Aid Squad to be treated for her injuries, police said. The Chester woman was issued a summons for careless driving and has a pending appearance in Chester Township Municipal Court, police said.
